Open Science is a movement to make the entire research process more accessible and reproducible, including input data, analysis methods, results, and the dissemination and reception of those results.
Its benefits include:
- Enhanced Understanding – by others (and even the original researcher in the future).
- Better Review – others can replicate and test to ensure accuracy and veracity.
- Amplified Impact and Efficiency – others can build on the research to augment its impact in subsequent work. The tendency to ‘reinvent the wheel’ is reduced.
- Improved Collaboration – multiple researchers, working together or separately, can contribute to tackling difficult problems.
Polar TEP provides tools to assist researchers in participating in all the facets of open and reproducible science:
- Input Data: Data discovery and visualisation.
- Analysis: IDE and Machine Learning.
- Collaboration: Code sharing, commenting, and discussion forums.
- Results: Packaging of data, algorithms, methods, and conclusions so that research can be reproduced and extended.
- Dissemination: Telling the story of the research to influence decisions and foster further research.
